Power Fist Boxing Seminar, September 24th & 25th 2011

chinese martial arts

The September 2011 Kung Fu Seminar was the largest retreat Chinese Martial Arts has ever hosted. A select group of 10 students returned to South Haven, Michigan to embark on a weekend of hard work and bonding. Sifu Yamel Torres challenged students with a different, difficult schedule each day. During the two day seminar, students practiced multiple-man fighting forms, conditioning sessions, and QiGong relaxing exercises. Saturday focused on perfecting the single-man form of Gung Li Kuen (Power fist Form) and learning and developing the multiple-man version of the form. On Sunday, students worked to sharpen their single-man Bung Bo form (Crushing Step) and begun learning the two-man version of the form. Each lesson was book-ended with Qi-Gong and broken up with an extended running session for conditioning.

The final Qi-Gong session was held on the shore of Lake Michigan. Sifu Torres led students through guided meditation in the placid, beachfront setting. After the long days of hard work, students convened back at the beach house and pitched in to make their communal meals. The seminar was a unique opportunity for devoted students to not only increase their Kung fu knowledge, but also to connect with each other outside of the regimented class schedule.
